The pace of progress is speeding up in ways we sometimes struggle to comprehend. Job requirements are rapidly changing. How do we learn in times of increasingly rapid market and technology changes? What is valid today may be obsolete tomorrow. There is a need to adopt new skill sets and, with that, new methods of learning. Organizations and employees are constantly facing major challenges, we need to radically rethink how we learn.

While established structures are being challenged, new mindsets are needed to take on necessary transformations. Changing a collective mindset means continuously teaching and encouraging certain behaviors, habits, and beliefs - which takes time and effort. Today's corporations often focus on performance, perfection, and growth. They tend to forget about empowering their employees with the needed skills and giving the perspective to their shifting expectations.

We need to ask ourselves what struggles people are facing in their daily work routine. Often it’s not that we don’t want to learn or aren’t interested but aspects of our daily life keep us from finding the time or energy. How can we adapt our workflows to integrate personal and professional development? How can we build a dynamic learning culture at our workplace? How can we galvanize life-long learning?

Let’s unleash employees worldwide and make challenges become opportunities!

We want to hack those rigid systems and work routines! Let’s sneak some learning into those overloaded workdays and empower people to become effective learners.

How are we going to do it?

With the power of small interventions! Our aim is to design tangible learning hacks that not only motivate employees to learn but also transform learning culture and integrate it into day to day routines.

What is a hack?

A hack is a shortcut, a way of cutting through a seemingly complex situation with a simple and straightforward solution. A good hack is easy-to-use but a very surprisingly effective workaround. In the best case, it is also fun and motivating!

So what’s the task?

We want you to develop hacks that trigger a change in an individual’s mindset and hence the collective mindset to transform learning culture and strengthen self-determined learning at work.

It’s about fresh and motivating approaches to learning that shape exciting experiences, and at the same time are adaptable in the day to day routines of employees.

Ask yourself:

How do we unleash a passion for learning new skills and methods?
How do we make people find purpose in seeking knowledge and strengthen their self-responsibility?
How can we promote learning hacks to get employees interested in them?
How can learning be seamlessly integrated into workflows? What could this look like?
How can we integrate hacks for challenges of specific target groups like white- or blue-collar employees or technology newbies?
How can learning from failures be meaningfully integrated into learning?
How can learning be transformed into social impact?

About ForeWork

ForeWork was initiated by jovoto in cooperation with a group of large companies, such as adidas, Volkswagen, Telekom or Vitra. As discussions about the future of work often leave out future talent, this initiative is shifting dynamics and offering the next generation a voice. Who is it for?

One of the most common struggles of working in a corporation or big organization is dealing with work-life balance and the pressure that comes with it: Full calenders, overwhelming workload, making enough time for personal life - all leading to a high stress-level and less capacity to put a continuous learning habit on top of it.

This situation is not only valid for the team lead or manager who has a whole unit to motivate besides himself. It’s equally important for the white-collar worker who feels the pressure to gain experience and stay ahead in the department. Or for the blue-collar worker working on a production line where he or she might not be having access to a computer and wifi to take part in online courses.

Note: Please make sure to think inclusive and note that the people we are reaching out to are very diverse, with different educational and cultural backgrounds, age groups, tasks and responsibilities.

2. Be aware hacks don’t have any copyright! Although certain parts of your hacks may qualify for copyright or further intellectual property rights protection.

5. The project terms clarify rights for your upload, as well as the details that go into effect if and when you are informed that someone wishes to license your design.
