Travel Bears | Reise-Bären
Each elementary school sends a plush bear out into the world to promote international understanding.

Solution

Reach all kids and their families in Berlin - in a playful manner.

Each elementary school adopts a travel bear (or more than one ) that goes around the globe - with people on vacation, business trips, etc - and is handed over to the next international class.

He comes with a travel journal/ teddy passport, and people take pictures of him around the world and upload to the app/ website. The kids can track where their bear is, and learn more about the countries and places he is visiting.

Teachers can opt for additional teaching materials to use in their "Sachkundeunterricht", and have bi-weekly sessions involving the bear and his travels. Kids can connect (for example as pen pals) with kids around the globe.

At the end of one year, the bears return to Berlin for a charity auction, with the profits going right back into the schools.

The teddy is traveling... right now. After escaping the Hamburg rain,he went for some sun in Gran Canaria before returning to Hamburg - and left the next day for Haifa, Israel.

Please describe your idea in one sentence.

Kids learning about countries & cultures through their travelling bear. In a melting pot like Berlin... a pretty good idea.

Who will benefit from your idea, hence whom is your idea directed towards?

Schools get an interesting approach for their Sachunterricht, and a whole lot of kids and parents are involved.

Why is your idea “good for Berlin”?

It makes countries & cultures fun and forges international connections for kids, improving education.

How many people do you think will benefit from your idea?

140.000 elementary school kids, their teachers, families, and the connections they make world-wide.

In what way does the Berliner Sparkasse gain visibility through your idea?

It is on the tshirt, branded in the teaching materials, the website, and app, shared through social media - and attracts new kiddie bank accounts with the small teddy as an opening gift.

Which kind of people and how many of them will take notice of your campaign?

At least all kids and their families, plus PR pieces, social media shares, and the bank visitors through the pinboards.

How much do you estimate the annual budget for the implementation of your idea to be?

If a max of 1000 bears are produced - app. 15,000€ for the bears, plus development for the app and website, plus print costs for teaching materials.

Travel costs are covered by the current teddy host, but additional money can be spent on prizes along the way - like an essay or drawing competition, where the prize profits the best school or class.

For the charity auction at the end, companies are encouraged to adopt "their" school's bear, with the money going back to the school.
